What is Influence?

Empire Avenue is a gateway and a facilitator. It is a connector and a learning tool. Empire Avenue is not an influence metric, Empire avenue is not a social network. On the surface it is a game, or a gamified social experience but it does not attempt to rank our exposure to the followers of these networks. Quite the contrary, Empire Avenue makes you a player in these networks.
The real question on everyone’s minds for the past 9-12 months is “why are we crafting new definitions for the word influence?” In the Klout context, influence is a mashup of exposure vs. popularity. For PeerIndex it’s popularity vs. depth. What we do know is that influence is not synonymous with advertising appeal or celebrity, nor is it being tracked by any algorithm currently at play in social media. « Read the rest of this entry »

Every once in a while a political uprising, social catalyst, or even technological achievement will cause the winds of human interaction to change direction.
New friends are made, more is learned about our fellow man, and we seem to get a whole lot smarter, if not more emotionally intelligent.
Wind is a very fickle thing, however, and will arbitrarily blow violently in a new direction. As our awareness is raised so goes the challenge to our adaptability. What Klout score does your local weather person hold? Would you trust them with the care and feeding of your online reputation and relationships?

Giffords Was Targeted by Palin and in Her “Cross-hairs”

While this certainly isn’t a warrant for the death of Gabrielle Giffords, it is a chilling call to action in light of today’s events in Arizona. Palin hasn’t spoken on the subject yet today but this image was removed from her website:
